Lake Natoma, Folsom CA

Description

Join Crystal Tobias (FOLFAN co-founder) for this guided Lake Natoma hike to explore nature and the emerging wildflowers!

The 2 mile hike begins at 9 am at the Willow Cafe and Sweetery, 13405 Folsom Blvd, in the city of Folsom. Arrive early if you plan to get a coffee drink or something from the bakery so we can leave promptly at 9 am.

The guided hike proceeds along the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail on the south side of Lake Natoma toward old Folsom. The hike pauses at an overlook where you might be able to see our resident bald eagle family. We then head back toward the Willow Cafe and Sweetery. Highlights along the path will include wildflowers and other native and non-native plants, animals and insects. Bring your binoculars to see the eagles and other birds that live in the park. Discussion will also touch on the area's cultural history.

Physical requirement: Not a strenuous hike; fairly level ground, sometimes paved trail and sometimes dirt trail.
What to bring: Water, hat, sunscreen, sun-protective clothing, and good walking shoes. Water resistant hat and jacket if there is a chance of a shower.
Recommended: Camera and binoculars—if you want to get a good look at the eagles!
Weather permitting: If there is a “chance of a shower,” the hike is on! But if it is raining or storming, we will reschedule. Be sure to leave us your cell phone number when you RSVP so we can call you if we need to cancel. This is a family-friendly hike, so children are welcome (if supervised), as well as dogs (if leashed & friendly).
